Lefty James Paxton was rolling.
After a rough first start at double-A Jackson in the Mariners, Paxton had a 3.09 ERA in five starts until he injured his knee in a Montgomery start (four runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Now, he’s back and active.
And in his thid start back he was dominant — dominant enough to win Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honours — the best of the 112 Canadians in the minors — for a second time.
Paxton (Ladner, BC) gained the victory in a 6-1 win over the Tennessee Smokies. He threw six Innings, allowing up eight its and one earned run, striking out six.
Paxton, who earlier won in Week I, improved his record with the Generals, to 4-3 with a 3.26 ERA.

Continuing to make a strong case for himself as a potential late season call up by the Toronto Blue Jays, Hill picked up his thrid win in a row for Las Vegas. On July 13th he earned the win in a 1-0 victory over Sacremento River Cats, as he tossed seven scoreless innings, gave up five hits, while striking out five. The win improved his record with the 51’s to 3-0 with a 3.66 ERA.

Brown made two appearances for the Canadians this week, and in the process earned his first win of the season. On July 12 he threw four innings in a 12-11 Loss to Boise Hawks, giving up 7 hits and six earned runs while strking out four Htters, but was not involved in the decision. On July 17 he earned the win in a 4-1 victory over Eugene Emeralds, as he tossed five strong innings, gave up five hits and only one earned run, and struck out six Emeralds Batters. He improved his overall record with Vancouver to 1-4 with an 8.10 ERA.

A member of a strong Capitales starting staff, with Jeff Duda and Karl Gelinas, Mariotti is having an excellent season. On July 13th, he earned the win in a 7-2 victoy over the Newark Bears. He threw seven innings, gave up six hits and two earned runs, while striking out vive Bears Hitters. The result improved his overall record with Quebec to 7-1 with a 4.50 ERA.
