St. Petersburg, Fla. — Sean Jamieson (Simcoe, Ont.) and Brock Kjeldgaard (London, Ont.) each homered as Canada cruised to a 12-0 victory over St. Petersburg College in exhibition play.

Canada is using the exhibition series as a tune-up for the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Regensburg, Germany September 20th-24th.

Canada opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Jimmy VanOstrand (Richmond, BC) doubled to score Tyson Gillies (Vancouver, BC) and Tim Smith (Toronto, Ont.).

Canadian starter Mark Hardy (Campbell River, BC) tossed three scoreless innings and struck out seven to earn the win.

In the fourth Canada broke the game open with a four-run outburst. Jamieson had the big blow of the inning as he belted a two-run homer that sailed over the fence in left-centre.

Kjeldgaard smoked a solo home run in the sixth and Adam Loewen (Surrey, BC) and Jordan Lennerton (Langley, BC) hit back-to-back doubles to put Canada up 8-0.

Sheldon McDonald (Spruce Grove, Alta.) pitched two perfect frames in the fourth and fifth and got two strikeouts and four ground ball outs

Canada also received scoreless frames from Jay Johnson (Sussex Corner, NB), RJ Swindle (Vancouver, BC), Trystan Magnuson (Vancouver, BC) and Mike Johnson (Sherwood Park, AB). Jay Johnson and Magnuson each recorded two strikeouts.

VanOstrand picked-up his third and fourth RBIs on the afternoon when he doubled in two runs in the seventh, while Gillies hit a two-run triple in the eighth to round-out the scoring.

Canada will play St. Petersburg College again Friday at 1 pm ET before taking on the Baltimore Orioles fall instructional League club on Sunday in Sarasota.
