DBacks Team BC Wins First Exhibition Game

10/25/2012 9:44:49 AM

The DBacks Team BC is used to playing an exhibition game prior to the official start of the WWBA World Championships.  Coach Doug Mathieson decided to go one step further this year, scheduling an additional contest against the Syracuse Zone Chiefs Thursday morning to go with his tradition “Battle of Canada” game against the Ontario Blue Jays.  DBacks Team BC will actually play three games today, with an official pool play game against the Orlando Scorpions Purple scheduled for 3:30 this afternoon.

DBacks Team BC moved their “unofficial” record to 1-0 with a 12-7 victory over Syracuse in a game filled with extra base hits, including 6 doubles and 3 triples.  Most importantly for both teams, the game was watched by generous number of college coaches.

DBacks RHP Daniel Koo (2013, Abbotsford, BC) was by far the most effective pitcher of any of the 8 hurlers on both sides who took the mound, working 3 shutout innings as the DBacks starter.  Koo topped out at 82 mph on his fastball.  Nine different DBack position players had hits, including 3B Liam Wilson (2013, Cambridge, Ont.), who went 2-3 with a double and a triple and a pair of RBIs.

SS Zach Kesterson (2015, Notre Dame HS, NY) stood out for Syracuse, going 3-3 with 3 Rbi’s with the bat and pitching an inning and topping out at 84 mph on his fastball.
