New York Mets OF Adam Loewen was wearing a boot in April after being diagnosed with a stress fracture of the second metatarsal in his right foot.

Well, the boot is off and Loewen is hitting line drive at triple-A Buffalo, now that he’s off the disabled list.

The injury happened in April and had been nagging Loewen. Loewen felt discomfort tracking a ball in the right-center gap. The next half-inning, while being thrown out on a play at the plate, Buffalo manager Wally Backman noticed Loewen had difficulty accelerating.

Loewen, who was beaten out by Mike Baxter for the lefty-hitting back-up outfield job with the Mets, was hitting .270 with three homers in 37 at-bats with the Bisons at the time of the injury.

Now that he’s back Loewen has earned the Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honours, as the best of the 107 Canadians in the minors in Week XIV.

And how his week went when he returned as he

_ Went for-for-3 with a walk against the Syracuse Chiefs in a 5-0 loss.

_ Hit a homer, knocking in three runs in 9-8 victory over Syracuse.

_ Singled, doubles and drove in a pair of runs in a 7-6 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.

_ Doubled, homered and drove two runs in a 10-3 win over Scranton/WB.

For the week Loewen hit .467 (7-for-15) with two homers and seven RBIs.
