Over the 18 year existence of the Brock Baseball program we have seen many incredible accomplishments, like Evan Baglieri (Chippawa, Ont.) setting a school record for RBIs in a single game with nine.
Baglieri had one of the top offensive performances in OUA history going 5-for-5 with two homeruns, two doubles and a Brock single game record nine RBIs in a 25-5 thumping of the Queen’s Golden Gaels.
But we could see one of the most difficult milestones reached this weekend.
Having been the head coach of the program for the last 17 years Jeff Lounsbury has been a part of many great accomplishments, two national championships, three OUA Championships and 197 OUA wins to go along with that.
But this weekend the light will finally shift from the players on the team to the man that runs the team as Lounsbury sits on the verge of one of the most elusive milestone. With three wins this weekend Coach Lounsbury will become the first coach to ever reach 200 career victories in the OUA.
“It takes a lot of people for me to get to a number like that,” Lounsbury said, “I have the greatest support team of coaches, university administration, players, staff, family and wife. We built a consistent program, one that continues to get better but remains a source of pride for all that have been involved. I am the lucky one that gets to be the head coach. I love the program and what it stands for, and I am truly honoured to have been lucky enough to watch it grow.”
With four games on the Badgers schedule this weekend Lounsbury hopes to return home to St. Catharines on Sunday night with a major career accomplishment reached. And when that 200 career OUA totals is reached he’s set off on 400 career wins — he 383 wins to be exact headed into the weekend.
Coach Lounsbury and the Badgers will begin their quest on Saturday at 4 pm when they take on the Western Mustangs, followed by a 7 pm game against the Laurier Goldenhawks. On Sunday they will face the Waterloo Warriors at 10 am and finish off the OUA Kick-off Tournament against the Guelph Gryphons at 1 pm.
All games will be featured on pointstreak, so make sure to tune in and potentially watch Canadian baseball history as Jeff Lounsbury hopes to reach 200 OUA wins.
