Jim VanOstrand has enjoyed his previous 10 months on the diamond.

Helping Canada to first a bronze medal in the World Cup … and then doubled in the winning run as Canada won gold in a 2-1 win over Team USA in the Pan-Am final in Mexico.

He began the season as a member with the Sugar Land Skeeters before giving the stage to someone else.

And now he’s earned Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week.

VanOstrand hit .407 (11-for-27) in the Washington Nationals system at Double-A Harrisburg to earn the nod as the best of 122 Canucks playing in the minors. The Richmond, B.C. native, who had a homer and five RBIs.

How the week that was went for VanOstrand as he:

_ Went 2-for-3 with two singles in a 5-2 loss to the Akron Aeros.

_ Singled in three at-bats in a 4-1 loss to Akron .

_ Went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs in a 6-1 win over the Erie SeaWolves.

_ Singled twice in an 2-1 win over Erie.

_ Homered and singled going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in a 8-6 win over Erie.

_ Singled in an 5-2 win over the Reading Phillies.

_ Was hitless 11-9 loss to the Reading.

Another excellent start for the 22 year old Braves Prospect, on Aug. 17 in a 3-0 victory over the Bluefield Blue Jays, as he threw six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and fanning three Jays Hitters. The win improved his record with Danville in the Appalachian League to 5-2 with a 3.76 ERA.

 

PHILLIPPE  AUMONT  RHP  –   AAA  LEHIGH  VALLEY  IRON  PIGS

Aumont continued to perform at a high level this week, he made three appearances and earned one win and a save. On Aug. 15 in a 4-1 victory over Buffalo Bisons he picked up his 15th save of the year as he closed out the game with a scoreless inning, in which he did not allow a hit. On Aug. 18 he tossed a scoreless, hitless inning in a 4-3 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens, to earn his third win of the season. On August 19 in a 9-4 loss to the Mud Hens he threw 2/3 of an Inning and gave up three hits and four earned runs, but was not involved in the decision. His overall record with Lehigh Valley is now 3-1, with 15 saves and a 4.26 ERA, and as a reward for his performance this season, Aumont was called up to the majors by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Just promoted by the Pirates to Double-A Altoona, on Aug. 21 Taillon made his first start in the Eastern League, and earned his first win at this level. He threw five scoreless Innings in a 5-0 win over Trenton Thunder, surrendering just four ase hits, while striking out six. His record at Altoona is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

Paxton continues to pitch well for the Generals, and this week and earned his eighth win of the season. On Aug. 21, he beat the Mobile Bay Bears 4-2, as the threw six strong innings in which he gave up only seven hits and two earned runs while striking out nine. The win improved his record with Double-A Jackson to 8-4 with a 3.08 ERA.

Kleven is having a very good season with Single-A Lakewood, and on Aug. 16, the Phillies Prospect earned his seventh win of the season, in a 5-4 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers. He threw seven innings and gave up only six hits and one earned run, while striking out four. The win improved his record with Lakewood to 7-8 with a 4.39 ERA.

It may seem repetitive, but I feel you have to give credit where it’s due, and Duda had another fine start for Quebec Capitales this week. On Aug. 18 he earned his 13th win of the season in 5-2 victory over Newark Bears, as the threw six scoreless innings, surrendered six hits, while stirking out seven. He improved his overall record wth the Capitales to 13-1, 1 Save and a 2.18 ERA.
