Nick Weglarz has spent enough time — too much time due to injuries — in Akron that he could run for mayor.
And after this week he’d win — in a landslide.
Weglarz hit four homers for double-A Akron in the Cleveland Indians system to win the top honours as the best of the 79 Canadians in the minors.
The top high school player drafted in 2005 in the third round Weglarz made his Akron debut playing 105 games. Then in 2010, he played 37 games before being promoted to triple-A Columbus.
Injuries restricted Weglarz to 41 games in 2011 and this year in 52 games he’s now hit 10 homers in his first 45 games after hitting .294 (10-for-34).

The win improved his record in the Independent Atlantic League to 2-0 with a 2.43 ERA.
