As first weeks of pro ball go, it couldn’t get much better than the debut of Steve Wickens.

Unless of course he had gone 10-for-17.

Wickens (Whitby, Ont.), a 33rd round pick of the Minnesota Twins out of Florida Gulf Coast University hit .529 (9-for-17) with a pair of RBIs and five runs scored for the Elizabethon Twins.

The fast start earned him Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honours, the best of the 101 Canucks in the minors.

How Wickens week went:

_ Playing second base in the second game of the season he had two hits in a 10-0 win over Danville Braves

_ Doubled in three trips in a 6-5 win against the Burlington Royals.

_ Singled in an 18-2 win over Burlington.

_ Went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs against the Bristol White Sox.

Not a bad start for the former Ontario Blue Jays infielder, who played for coach Danny Bleiwas.
