Canadian teams combine for winning record in Jupiter

East Cobb Baseball won the 85-team 2012 WWBA World Championship, defeating Chet Lemon’s Juice 8-2 in Jupiter, Fla.
Two of the three Canadian teams — DBacks Team BC (2-1 in pool play), Ontario Blue Jays (2-1) and Canada Perfect Game Gold (1-1-1) — all advanced to the playoff round.
DBacks dropped its opener and then won its second consolation.
The Jays won, then lost and a second round consolation round game.
And Canada PG lost its two playoff games.
Combined the three Canadian teams, including the DBacks Team BC exhibition win over Syracuse for an 8-7-1 record.
Team Mizuno of PR wins consolation game 5-3

Team Mizuno of Puerto Rico (PR) defeated the Ontario Blue Jays 5-3 in a consolation round game at the 2012 WWBA World Championships. Leading the way for Team Mizuno was SS Jan Alexis Hernandez (2013, Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy, San Lorenzo, PR) who went 2 for 3 with an RBI triple, a stolen base, and a run scored. MIF Roy Morales (2013, Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy, Lares, PR) finished 2 for 3 as well with 2 RBIs and a run scored. C/OF Frankie Rodriguez (2013, Antonio Lucetti HS, Arecibo, PR) added a nice game going 2 for 3 with an RBI triple and a run scored.
On the mound, starting RHP Yadiel Cruz (2013, IBAHS, Caguas, PR) threw 3 innings allowing no runs on 3 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Reliever LHP Jonathan Bermudez (2013, Jose Felipe Zaya HS, Coamo, PR) added 2 solid innings allowing no runs on 1 hit with no walks and 4 strikeouts.
Louisiana PG Purple wins consolation game 8-6

Louisiana PG Purple has defeated Canada PG Gold 8-6 in a consolation round game at the 2012 WWBA World Championships. Leading the way for Louisiana PG was lead off man LHP Harry Chairs Jr. (2014, John Curtis HS, Kenner, LA) who finished 1 for 3 with an RBI triple, a walk, and a run scored. 2B/OF ZJ Buster (2014, St. Paul’s HS, Covington, LA) went 1 for 1 with a double, 2 walks, 3 stolen bases, and 2 runs scored.
On the mound, starter RHP Payton Coddou (2013, ED White HS, Mandeville, LA) threw 2 innings allowing just an unearned run on 2 hits. He showed good feel for his 11/5 curveball and had his fastball up to 83 MPH with some armside run. Reliever RHP Dylan Manichia (2013, Fontainebleau HS, Mandeville, LA) then came on for 2 1/3 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits with no walks and a strikeout.
For Canada PG Gold, OF Daniel Nikitovic (2014, Mississauga, Ont.) led the way going 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI, a walk, a stolen base, and 2 runs scored.
DBacks NW Scout Team wins consolation 7-2

The DBacks NW Scout Team has defeated the DBacks Team BC 7-2 in a consolation round game at the 2012 WWBA World Championships. Leading the way for DBacks NW Scout was 2B/3B and Wake Forest commit Nate Mondou (2013, Charles Wright Academy, Lake Tapps, WA) who went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. He displayed a fluid stroke with a short, compact swing and also earned high marks in the field for his fluid defense actions and quick, smooth transfer. RHP Michael Fairchild (2013, Olympia HS, Olympia, WA) finished 2 for 2 with a run scored.
On the mound, starter RHP Tyler Howlett (2013, La Conner HS, La Conner, WA) was solid over 4 innings allowing an unearned run on no hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Fairchild then came on and threw 2 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He displayed good armside run on his fastball that topped out at 89 MPH. RHP Maverick Buffo (2014, Spanish Fork HS, Salem, UT) then came on and finished the job tossing a scoreless 7th inning allowing just 1 hit while striking out 1. He had good life on his fastball that was up to 85 MPH.
SGV Arsenal scores 8 runs on 4 hits in win

SGV Arsenal scored five in the bottom of the fifth to beat Canada PG Gold 8-3 Monday morning. SGV Arsenal needed just four hits in the win, two of which went for extra-bases off the bats of Jake Hirabayashi (2015, Notre Dame HS, CA) and Soloman Bates (2015, Victor Valley HS, CA). Stephen Dubb (2014, Loyola HS, CA) showed a good eye and patient approach, walking three times.
LHP Jonathan Reid (2013, Bonita HS, CA) struck out seven in four innings for SGV. He pitched from a smooth, balanced delivery, firing strikes at 79-84 mph with arm side run. Reid also flashed a low-70s breaking pitch with late break.
Team Georgia Advances on 7th Inning Run

Team Georgia scratched out a run on 2 walks and an infield error in the top of the 7th inning Sunday night to edge the Ontario Blue Jays 2-1 and advance to the playoff Quarterfinals.
Five Team Georgia pitchers combined to throw a 1-hitter. RHP Logan Elliott (2013, Dunwoody HS, GA) threw the first 3 innings, not allowing a hit or a run. RHP/OF Beau Blair (2013, Mountain View HS, GA) threw 1 shutout innings and showed the best stuff of the 5 pitchers, topping out at 87 mph. Blair also went 2-4 at the plate.
RHP Steven McNeill (2013, Cambridge, Ont.) threw outstanding for the Blue Jays until walking the first 2 hitters of the 7th. He topped out at 89 mph on his fastball and showed a very good change up that he threw frequently. McNeill does not have a college commitment.
Blue Jays C/RHP Sean Radcliffe (2013, Pickering Ont.) came out of the bullpen to get the final 3 outs, throwing 89-91 mph with a hard spinning mid 70’s curveball. The 6-4, 200 Radcliffe also does not have a college commitment.

Fueled by a nine-run third inning, the Ontario Blue Jays beat the Mid-Atlantic Rookies 11-0 on Sunday to advance to the second round of the playoffs. Joey Guaragna (2013, Mississauga, Ont.) led the offensive explosion, going 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI from the leadoff spot. He also scored twice. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder features a strong, projectable frame and a live bat. Teammate Josh Naylor (2015, Mississauga, Ont.) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. He displayed good bat speed and power potential.
Gareth Morgan (2014, North York, Ont.), Owen Spiwak (2013, Mississauga, Ont.) and Daniel Szpik (2013, Toronto, Ont.) also drove in runs.
LHP Brodie Harkness (2013, Bowmanville, Ont.) pitched all five innings for the Blue Jays, yielding just three hits. He worked in the 77-81 mph range.

The Atlanta Blue Jays made the most of their three scattered hits to beat Dbacks Team BC 3-1 and advance to the second round of the playoffs at the WWBA World Championship. RHP Nicholas Lawrence (2013, Wellington HS, FL) allowed just two hits and a walk in six innings for the Blue Jays, striking out five. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder worked with a solid arm action, firing strikes at 86-88 mph, peaking at 90. He also flashed a few mid-70s curves.
LHP Travis Seabrooke (2013, Peterborough, Ont.) allowed one hit and a walk in four innings for the Dbacks, fanning five. The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder’s arm worked well. He changed speeds and kept the hitters off balance, firing strikes at 85-87 mph with arm side run. Seabrooke showed good command of his mid-70s changeup with sink and flashed a low-70s curve with 12/6 break.
Farrah Scout’s pound out 10 hits in big win

Four different players recorded multiple hits in Farrah Scout’s 11-3 win over the Ontario Blue Jays Sunday morning. Jeff Anderson (2013, Delbarton HS, NJ) led the offensive explosion going 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI. He also scored twice. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder displayed lift in his swing and drove the ball with regular contact. Teammate Nicholas Mascelli (2013, Seton Hall Prep HS, NJ) also went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Mascelli stayed inside the ball well and showed good bat speed at the plate. In the field he displayed a strong, accurate arm.
Stephen Notaro (2013, Tottenville HS, NY) and Caleb Potter (2014, Mentor HS, OH) also had two hits each for Farrah’s. At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Potter boasts a large, projectable frame and and showed scouts a fluid stroke with lift.
RHP Andrew Cohen (2013, Monroe Twp HS, NJ) started and pitched two innings for Farrah’s. He threw with a loose arm action with a deceptive delivery, firing strikes at 80-84 mph with arm side run and sink. Cohen also showed good command of his mid-70s frisbee slider and mixed in a few low-70s changeups while maintaining his arm speed.
ABD Victory pounds out 10 hits in 2-2 tie

ABD Victory and Canada PG Gold tied 2-2 Sunday. ABD pounded out 10 hits, including three from Steven Coe (2013, Valley Center HS, CA). Coe displayed a fluid stroke and rotational swing, doubling twice and scoring a pair of runs. Kyle Candalla (2013, Mission Viejo HS, CA) went 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot. He also stole a base.
RHP Tyler Huber (2013, Heritage Hall HS, OK) pitched all seven innings for ABD, striking out five. He worked in the 80-83 mph range, peaking at 85. Huber also mixed in a few upper-60s curves and worked from a high 3/4 arm angle.
Hellinger 2-Hit Shutout Tames the Braves

RHP Sam Hellinger (2013, West Seattle HS, WA) threw a complete game 2-hit shutout with 0 walks and 9 strikeouts to lead the DBacks Team BC to a 2-0 win over the Richmond Braves Sunday morning. The 6-1, 175 Hellinger needed only 98 pitches for the 7 inning effort, throwing almost 70% of his pitches for strikes. He pitched in the 84-87 mph range and showed good depth and command of his low 70’s curveball and a deceptive 77 mph change up. Hellinger does not have a college commitment.
The only 2 hits off Hellinger were by 1B/LHP Bryce Harman (2013, Lloyd Bird HS, VA), the #83 prospect in the PG class rankings. The 6-6/230 left handed hitting Harman had a double and a triple.
C Morgan Lofstrom (2013, Kelowna, BC) went 2-2 for the DBacks.
RHP Jack Roberts (2013, James River HS, VA) threw very well for the Braves for 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and the only run. A Virginia commit, Roberts topped out at 91 mph while relying mostly on his fastball.
