Jupiter Day III: Davis, Keyes, Skirrow, Turcotte dominate at PG

There are 15 diamonds at the Roger Dean Complex in Jupiter, seven belonging to the St. Louis Cardinals, seven used each spring by the Miami Marlins and the stadium shared by the two teams when they play home games.

During Day III of the Perfect Game World Wood Bat Championship 2,254 players participated and two diamonds were owned by Canucks: OF Cooper Davis (Mississauga, Ont.) and RHP Sam Turcotte (Toronto, Ont.) 

RHP Turcotte of the Ontario Terriers pitched for the Body Armour Titans (NY) facing Team Evoshield, the tournament’s eventual runner up on Cards No. 2. Turcotte dominated striking out eight, allowing two hits in a complete 0-0 tie. He has committed to Stony Brook University. 

Meanwhile, Davis had two hits and stole five bases as the Ontario Blue Jays beat the Palm Beach Select 6-2 as the Toronto-based team upped its record to 2-1-1. 

Davis reached on an error to open the game, stole second and one out later scored on a Nick Howie (Oakville) single. 

Luke Van Rycheghem (Kent Bridge) and Ryan Rijo (Barrie) each singled to load the bases, and Cooper Lamb (Burlington) singled in a run an another scored on an error. 

The Ontario Blue Jays scored again in the second to go up 4-0 as Ethan Cummins (Mississauga) and Davis each singled. After Cummins was thrown out and Davis stole second and third he scored on a Howie single.

Lamb singled in the third, stole second and scored on a Tyler Silva (Cambridge) single for a 5-0 lead.

After the lead was cut to 5-2, the Ontario Blue Jays scored their final run as Davis singled, stole second and third and came in on a Howie single. 

Noah Skirrow (Stoney Creek) pitched five innings allowing two runs on three hits and five walks, while fanning seven. Delvin Green (Brampton) finished up with two scoreless innings. 

Howie had a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Lamb knocked in a pair of runs with his two hits. Cummins also had two hits.

Owen Jansen (Oakville), Van Rycheghem, Rijo and Silva each had hits.

Meanwhile, DBacks Langley Blaze knocked off the PG Navy Select 9-1 with Matthew Brodt (Penticton, BC) and Tommy Koloski (Anchorage, AK) on the mound. Clayton Keyes (Calgary, Alta.) doubled and knocked in three runs. 

And the Texas Scout Team Yankees knocked off Canada PG Gold 13-5 in a game started by Tyler Cox (Mississauga). 

Austin Wilkie (Mississauga, Ont.) and Bryce O’Farrell (Burlington, Ont.) each had one hit.

Andrew Yerzy (Toronto, Ont.) singled as the Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team battled GBG Marucci to a 2-2 tie.

Max Wright (Toronto, Ont.) doubled in a St. Louis Pirates/Elite Baseball Training 6-0 win over Palm Beach Select.
