Purple and Gold World Series results

This past weekend marked a big moment the  our program as the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks held its inaugural Purple and Gold World Series. The two current captains drafted teams and a best-of-three series was held at Community Park in Milton.  It was a chance for our players to compete against each other with bragging rights on the line before they head off to their summer teams.  

The highly competitive series ended in a 1-1 tie as Game 3 was rained out on Sunday unfortunately.

Game 1 - Gold 2 Purple 1
Austin Hassani and Jake Tougas locked up in a pitchers dual.  With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, incoming freshman Nick Cook drove in Nic Lannutti with the eventual winning run.

Game 2 - Purple 3 Gold 2
There were more hits in this game as the hitters were getting their rhythm and timing back after a long winter.  Purple jumped out to a lead, but Gold tied it in the seventh only to see Robbie Cant hit a walk off single to win the game and tie the series.

Game Three - Rained Out
Noah Ivanyi and Zach Lawrence were the scheduled starters in Game 3. An MLB16 simulation and the game ended in a 2-2 tie, so the issues will be settled in the falll.

The annual fundraising golf tournament goes Wednesday July 13th and is open for registration.
