Needing reinforcements after a weekend that saw their bullpen work a total of 16 innings in a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers, the Toronto Blue Jays recalled right-handed reliever Dominic Leone from triple-A Buffalo ahead of Monday's series opener in Boston.

To make room on the team's 25-man roster, right-hander Lucas Harrell was designated for assignment.

A recent victim of the options remaining on his contract, Leone was claimed off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks last November and will begin his fourth stint with the 42-49 Blue Jays when they check into Fenway Park for a four-game showdown against the front-running Red Sox.

Through 34 major league assignments with the Blue Jays this season, the former 16th-round draft pick has posted an ERA of 2.95 with 42 strikeouts against 18 walks through 39 2/3 innings.

Having pitched only two innings since rejoining the Bisons on July 7, Leone should be able to provide the Blue Jays with some length if needed out of the bullpen.

Harrell, 32, appeared in four games with the Blue Jays and posted a 7.11 ERA in 6 1/3 frames.
