Dawgs re-sign four from Mesa Community College

The Okotoks Dawgs are excited to announce the re-signing of four impactful members of the club’s pitching staff for the 2019 Western Canadian Baseball League season.

Returning for their second season in Okotoks are Carter Robinson, Cameron Doherty, Dustin Schorie, and Nolan Ruff. All are currently in their sophomore year at Mesa Community College in Arizona.

Carter Robinson is a 6’8’’, 225 right-hander from Phoenix, Ariz. Robinson pitched to a 5-2 record in eight starts for the Dawgs in 2018, recording 49 strikeouts against just nine walks in 49 2/3 innings. His 2.36 ERA was second-best among Dawgs starting pitchers. Robinson is having an outstanding sophomore season, with a 5-1 record and a 1.02 ERA to go along with 73 strikeouts in 10 starts.

Cameron Doherty is a 6’2’’, 190 lb right-hander from Scottsdale, Ariz. He made eight starts for the Dawgs in 2018, logging 42 innings with a 3-2 record and 26 strikeouts against just five walks. This spring, Doherty has recorded four wins in 10 starts, pitching to a 3.34 ERA with 46 strikeouts. Doherty has committed to Eastern Illinois University (NCAA Div. 1) for his junior year in 2020.

Dustin Schorie is a 6’4’’, 230 lb right-hander from Chandler Ariz. He was a critical piece of the Dawgs’ bullpen in 2018, making 21 appearances, which was second-most on the team. He worked to a 3.98 ERA in 20 1/3 innings pitched, while recording a save and a 2-1 record with 11 strikeouts. Schorie is a bullpen workhorse at Mesa CC, making 16 appearances this spring while recording 30 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched.

Nolan Ruff is a 5’11’’, 145 lb right-hander from Glendale, AZ. He was outstanding for the Dawgs last season, working to a 1.80 ERA in nine relief appearances while allowing just eight hits and three walks against 10 strikeouts. This spring, Ruff has made 16 appearances, one start, picking up six wins and two saves, while recording 30 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched.
