The Toronto Blue Jays are in the Bronx this weekend facing the New York Yankees and their group of established stars and young studs.

Former Ontario Blue Jay Jordan Romano (Markham, Ont.) was in Trenton earlier this week to face the Yankees’ affiliate double-A Trenton Thunder and their prospects.

Pitching for the New Hampshire Fisher Hats, Romano struck out seven working seven scoreless inning for his first win in the Eastern League. The effort earned him the Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honours for Week II.

Vladimir Guerrero (Montreal, Que.) had a pair of hits, doubled and knocked in a run in a 4-0 New Hampshire win before 3,294 fans at Arm & Hammer Park. Guerrero doubled off Domingo Acevedo, ranked the Yankees No. 10 prospect by Baseball America.

The Yankees had four prospects in the lineup in third baseman Gosuke Katoh, first basemen, Chris Gittens, DH Trey Amburgey and RF Jhalan Jackson.

Katoh lined out to centre fielder Jonathan Davis, was called out of swinging and struck out swinging.

Gittens struck out swinging, struck out swinging and flied out to right fielder Andrew Guillotte.

Amburgey flew out to right fielder Guillotte, popped up to second baseman Bo Bichette and doubled to centre.

Jackson flew out to Davis, struck out swinging and grounded to Guerrero, who threw to first baseman Cavan Biggio.

So, Romano drafted in the 10th round in 2014 from Oral Roberts and signed by scout Dallas Black, allowed a double and two singles. He struck out seven and held the four Yankees prospects to 1-for-12 with five strikeouts.

On April 14th in an 8-7 win over the Travelers, he pitched one scoreless inning and surrendered zero hits, to record his first save.
