Hamilton, Heppner, O’Rae strong in juniors’ loss to DSL Royals

The Junior National Team had a tough time containing the Kansas City Royals DSL team on Wednesday, losing 7-1.

Chase Marshall (Surrey, BC) toed the rubber for the Juniors, working four innings, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out four. Ty Hamilton (Orleans, Ont.) threw a scoreless inning in relief to help the Juniors stop the bleeding. Ryan Heppner (Point Roberts Washington, Wash.) then came in to close out the game and hurled three innings, permitting two unearned runs on three hits while striking out two.

Dylan O'Rae (Sarnia, Ont.) continues to do his part at the top of the lineup for the Juniors’ offence, collecting a hit in three at bats. He also had a walk and scored the only run for his club. Sam White (Aurora, Ont.), Detien Lachance (Sherbrooke, Que) and Max Hartman (Okotoks, Alta.) all managed to collect a hit in four at bats.

From May 11 to May 23, the Junior National Team program will play a 16-game tour over 12 days, facing 15 different MLB professional academies in the Dominican Republic.
