Tulowitzki homers, Yankees down Jays

Blue Jays from Away

The Toronto Blue Jays were shut out for the second time in three games thus far in the Grapefruit League schedule, losing 3-0 to the New York Yankees in Tampa with former Blue Jay Troy Tulowitzki playing the hero.

Marcus Stroman started for the Blue Jays and took the loss, giving up the solo home run to Troy Tulowitzki, as well as one from Kyle Higashioka which put the Blue Jays behind 2-0. Stroman allowed three hits in total with one walk and one strikeout.

Stroman was relieved by Danny Barnes who threw a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out two and Javy Guerra made his Blue Jays debut, walking one and striking out two in his inning. Justin Shafer gave up two hits in his inning and Mark Leiter Jr. allowed a run on two hits in the sixth. Zach Jackson walked one and struck out two in the seventh and Conor Fisk threw a scoreless eighth.

Teoscar Hernandez had the Blue Jays' only hit as the offence sputtered against the Yankees. Major leaguers Devon Travis (0/1, BB), Kevin Pillar (0/3), Kendrys Morales (0/2, BB), Danny Jansen (0/2), Brandon Drury (0/2), Freddy Galvis (0/2) and Billy McKinney (0/2) all went hitless with McKinney playing first base for the first time. Jonathan Davis (0/2) started the game in right field while Eric Sogard (0/2), Roemon Fields (0/1), Forrest Wall (0/1), Bo Bichette (0/1), Reese McGuire (0/1), Santiago Espinal (0/1), Kevin Smith (0/1), Cavan Biggio (0/1) and Andrew Guillotte (0/1) also got into the game.

Matt Shoemaker starts for the Blue Jays at 1:07 p.m. ET at Dunedin Stadium against the Red Sox on Tuesday where he takes on righty Mike Shawaryn.
