Good genes: His father, Greg, played for the Orange Coast College Pirates, was a 32nd round draft of the Toronto Blue Jays and played five seasons in the Toronto system (class-A St. Catharines, class-A Dunedin, double-A Knoxville and triple-A Syracuse), had his contract purchased by the Florida Marlies in 1993 (triple-A Portland). He played 12 games with the Marlins and split the 1995 season between the Cubs system (triple-A Iowa) and with the Duluth-Superior Dukes of the independent Northern League. Connor’s brother Ryan O’Halloran played three seasons at Orange Coast, hitting .329 as a freshman and the last two for the Butler Bulldogs, collecting 52 hits in 2022.

March Report: O’Halloran had an up-and-down 2022, but finished the year with 104 strikeouts in 92 2/3 innings. In 2023, however, everything has been clicking in the early going as he has a 1.62 ERA and a fantastic strikeout-to-walk ratio of 44-to-8 in 33 1/3 innings pitched. He throws from a deceptive, low 3/4 slot and is able to locate his low-90s fastball well to either side of the plate. O’Halloran’s best offering is his slider, which currently boasts a miss rate above 50% and is a pitch he’ll throw to both left and right handed hitters. With his low slot and big-time horizontal movement, the pitch is especially effective against left handed hitters. O’Halloran will also mix in a change up, but relies heavily on his fastball and slider.
