Blue Jays from Away

The Jays’ minor leaguers were 5-2 over the course of their seven games on Tuesday including a double header split by the Buffalo Bisons.


Buffalo Bisons 1, Syracuse Chiefs 5
In the first game of a double header with the Syracuse Chiefs that made up a game from June 5, the Bisons’ offense couldn’t get going and their defense let them down in a 5-1 loss. Only two of the five runs allowed were earned off of starter Casey Lawrence who threw a complete game of six innings, giving up just four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Darrell Ceciliani hit a solo home run in the second inning and A.J. Jimenez had two singles.

Roster Notes: Danny Barnes was promoted to Toronto (and made his major league debut) along with Mike Bolsinger. Ryan Goins and Bo Schultz were both optioned to Buffalo. Bobby Korecky and Colt Hynes were activated off the 7-day DL along with Jio Mier.

 
Buffalo Bisons 4, Syracuse Chiefs 0
The Bisons turned the tables in the second game of the double header, scoring four times and shutting out the Chiefs 4-0. Erik Kratz was 2/2 with a double and two runs while also taking a walk and Matt Dominguez hit a double, driving in two runs. Jio Mier also provided two RBI, going 1/3.

Pat Venditte got the start for the Bisons, throwing four innings and allowing five hits and striking out four. Aaron Loup struck out the side in the fifth, giving up two hits and earning the win while Dustin Antolin (1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) and Ryan Tepera (S, 1 IP) finished the game.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6, Akron RubberDucks 4
Neither of the new additions to the Fisher Cats’ roster made the playing field but the ‘Cats defeated the Akron RubberDucks 6-4 thanks to a home run from Emilio Guerrero. Guerrero was one of six Fisher Cats with two hits and he scored twice and drove in two, adding a stolen base. Derrick Loveless had two singles, a stolen base and scored once while Rowdy Tellez (2/4, RBI, SB), Ryan Lavarnway (2/5, R), Roemon Fields (2/5, 2B, 2 RBI) and Christian Lopes (2/4, 2B, BB, 2 R) also had two hits.

Jeremy Gabryszwski gave up three runs on four hits and two walks over five innings, striking out four while Murphy Smith threw two perfect innings, striking out one and Chris Smith picked up the save with two innings, giving up a run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Fort Wayne TinCaps 6
The Lugnuts lost their series to the Fort Wayne TinCaps in a decided less dramatic fashion than the three previous games in the series. Justin Maese was touched for four runs (three earned) on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings, striking out four and was saddled with the loss. Daniel Young threw 2/3 of an inning, walking one and striking out one before Tom Robson came in for the final two frames, giving up three hits and two runs but without walking anyone and striking out four.

Max Pentecost had another excellent game, going 2/4 with a double and a triple, driving in two while Justin Atkinson creeps ever closer to the Mendoza Line, now hitting .192 with a 2/4 game. John La Prise hit a double and took a walk, driving in a run and Andrew Guillotte was on base twice with a single, a walk and a stolen base.

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Burlington Royals 0
Pitching was the story for Bluefield as Yennsy Diaz was practically unhittable, throwing six innings of two-hit ball with just one walk and eight strikeouts. Andrew Deramo (1 iP), Chris Hall (1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K), and Connor Eller (1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) finished the game without allowing any more hits.

The offense continues to struggle with the strikeout, whiffing 17 times as a team (in 33 at bats), but still managed to score five runs, getting a single, a walk, a run and a stolen base from Reiggie Pruit, a single, a walk, two runs and two stolen bases from Nick Sinay, a double, a walk and an RBI from Levi Scott, a single and two RBI from Juandy Mendoza and solo home runs from Matt Morgan and Javier Monzon.

GCL Blue Jays 3, GCL Tigers East 0
The GCL Blue Jays cruised to another win, defeating the Tigers East GCL club by a 3-0 score and making Wilfri Aleton a winner. Aleton only struck out four this time but he allowed just three hits and one walk over 5 2/3 innings. William Ouellette threw 2 1/3 hitless innings, walking one and Jared Carkuff gave up a hit in one inning, earning his seventh save.

Lane Thomas continues his rehab and, while he struck out three times, he also was 2/5 with a home run, two stolen bases and two runs. Ryan Gold had the Blue Jays’ only other hit.

DSL Blue Jays 10, DSL White Sox 3
The DSL Blue Jays won their 29th game, defeating the White Sox 10-3 on Tuesday. Four Blue Jays had two hits each with Jonelvy Molina, the catcher, driving in five runs and going 2/4 with a double and a walk. Aldo Ovando was 2/4 with a walk and three runs while Luis De Los Santos was 2/5 with a double and two RBI. Mc Gregory Contreras was 2/3 with two walks, a triple, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs.

Luis Mendoza threw a complete game for the Blue Jays, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
