Who is the most influential person in your baseball life and why? “My dad, Colin, 100%. He taught me at a young age how to be the best baseball ever.”
And my mom, Jennifer, sacrificed a lot to get me where I am today and I’m really grateful that she has done that for me.”
Good genes: “My mom never really played much sports but later she played floor hockey. My dad played at Leaside growing up and he went to Seton Hall for baseball and also played for Team Canada as well. (Colin also played 26 games in the independent Frontier League with the Johnstown Steal, Springfield Capitals and Evansville Otters in 1995-96).
Your greatest day on the ball field? “Everyday I go the ball field is the greatest day.”
Your favourite player and why? “I’ve always loved Francisco Lindor because of his play style and how he carries himself. As a pitcher now I love Jacob deGrom. His mechanics are fluid and again he’s another person that carries himself well.”
If not a pro player, what’s the next best job you’d want to have when you grow up? “Sports marketing or anything involving sports. That will be the best job for me.”
What’s the most important life rule/thing you’ve learned playing ball? “My dad told me this phrase a billion times: ‘Never let a scout put an X beside your name.’ I carried that with me throughout my whole career so far and I will forever.”
What four people -- dead or alive would you invite to a mythical diner to ask them questions and what would you ask: “1. God: how to be a better man and how to face many of my challenges differently. 2. My late father: I want to have one more dinner with him to talk baseball 3. Jacob deGrom: How he carries himself so well, and how to be a better pitcher in general 4. Denzel Washington: On how to carry failure better, and putting my gratitude and success first.”
