Babcock, Cymbalista, Duggan lead Oshawa to win in Montreal

OSHAWA LEGIONAIRES 17U ELITE BASEBALL CLUB WINS 2016 MONTREAL FALL CLASSIC TOURNAMENT!!!!

The Oshawa Legionaires 17U claimed the championship title in the Montreal Titans Fall Classic with an 8-7 victory over the Montreal Warriors AAA from Southshore at Bedard Parc in Montreal. 

Braden Babcock pitched six strong innings allowing three earned runs, while striking out six for his second win of the tourney. Ethan Duggan pitched the seventh for the save in the final, including a strikeout for the final out. Duggan also contributed a homer in the final to right field, his second of the tourney. 

Jeremy Goyette took the loss. Babcock had pitched the opening win over Chene Bleu Academie AAA 8-3. Meanwhile the Oshawa offence was led by 1B Mitchelle Haywood, 3B Ty Cymbalista and Duggan who each had two hits and drove in a run each. 

The Legionaires went undefeated going 4-0-1, including a semi-final walk-off win over Eduard Montpetit AAA thanks to an RBI single over the third basemen’s head scoring Cymbalista with the winning run.  

Oshawa beat Chene Bleu 8-3 in the opener as Owen Gowanlock and Keiven Frost each had two hits as Aaron Muravski and Haywood each singled and drove in a run each. Legionaires C Matthew Robinson threw out two would be base stealers. Babcock allowed four hits in six innings for the win, while Nathan Long finished up.

Oshawa bats exploded in for a 16-10 win against the host Titans as the Legionaires gained revenge for losing to Montreal 11-7 in the semi-final at the Cooperstown NY Classic in August. 2B Aaron Muravskie hit a two-run homer and Duggan with a solo shot went back to back in a 10-run third inning putting the Legionaires up 12-2. Duggan went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, while Muravski went 3-for-3 with two RBIs as Connor Cavanagh, Frost, Cymbalista and Gowanlock each had two hits apiece and combined to knock in six.
RHP Cavanagh picked up the win allowing two runs as the Legionaires improved to 2-0 now.

Oshawa scored once in the sixth and again in the seventh to battle Eduard Montpetit to a 4-4 tie wrapping up pool play. C Haywood drove in two runs in this one while Robinson and Long drove in a run each. The 6-foot-4 RHP Conner Allen pitched six innings allowing only four hits, walking two and striking out 7. The Legionaires completed pool play at 2-0-1 for first place in Pool B.

Long went the distance as Oshawa edged Eduard Montpetit 6-5 thanks to a walk-off single by Muravski which scored Cymbalista, who had stolen second base the pitch before. Long allowed four hits and struck out 10. Frost, Haywood, Cymbalista and Muravski all had two hits each to lead the 11 hit Oshawa attack  moving the Legionaires to championship.

The Legionaires compete in the Pastime USA Tournament at the Pan Am Games Parks and Kinsmen Stadium on Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.
