Two Canucks combined to throw four of seven innings for Team Elite/Arizona Diamondbacks Scout Team in a 4-2 win over Spects National at the 27th annual event in Jupiter, Fla.
AJ Rogers and Oscar Johnson combined on the five-hit victory on Day II of play in the 120-team tournament which brings the best high schoolers in North America together at the spring training home of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Nationals.
No less than 56 Canucks are spread across the rosters of 10 different teams. Mind you all did not see action on Day II as for a rare day in Florida the weather was the winner. Scouts used to joke when they scouted the Florida Marlins at home how they were “never able to see batting practice because it usually rained each day at 5 o’clock.”
Taking over with a 4-0 lead, Rogers (Dartmouth, N.S.) pitched three solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out a pair in his 46-pitch outings (53% strikes) hitting 90 MPH.
Johnson (Puslinch, Ont.) came on to work a scoreless seventh, needing only 13 pitches (61% strikes) as he walked one and struck out one. His fastball was clocked at 91 MPH.
Team Ontario’s Alexander Tassopoulos
Alexander Tassopoulos tripled and knocked in two runs as Artillery Baseball Scout thumped 5 Star Performance National 11-1.
Tassopoulos (Stouffville, Ont.) had an RBI triple in the second to break a 1-1 tie and grounded out to make it 4-1 in the fourth.
Earlier in the day, also serving as a DH, Tassopoulos was 1-for-3 as Artillery beat the San Diego Show 7-1.
