Fieldhouse Pirates and Junior National Team alum Owen Caissie (Burlington, Ont.) has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s minor league Player of the Week after he topped all Canadians with four home runs last week.

Iowa Cubs outfielder Owen Caissie (Burlington, Ont.) topped all Canadians in the affiliated minor league ranks in home runs (4), runs (9), slugging percentage (1.143) and OPS (1.703) this past week.

For his efforts, he has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s minor league Player of the Week (July 1 to July 6) for the third time this season. He also received the honour for the weeks of May 19 to May 25 and June 10 to June 15.

Caissie started his week by drawing a walk in five at bats against the Kansas City Royals’ triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers on Wednesday before smashing two home runs and driving in four the following day to propel the Cubs to a 12-3 win.

For an encore, he went 3-for-4 with a double, two singles and a walk in the Cubs’ 7-2 victory on Friday prior to enjoying his second two-homer game of the week in an 8-4 loss to the Storm Chasers on Saturday.

He completed the week with three more hits - including a double and two singles - and two runs on Sunday as the Cubs won 9-5 in the series finale.

In total, in five games last week, Caissie went 10-for-21 (.476 batting average) with six RBIs and a .560 on-base percentage.

For the season, his fifth in the Cubs’ organization, Caissie is batting .280 with 16 home runs, 39 RBIs and a .944 OPS in 70 games.
