Aumont named Can-Am League Pitcher of the Month

Thornhill, Ontario — Ottawa Champions RHP Phillippe Aumont is the Can-Am League’s Pitcher of the Month for the month of July, as selected by PointStreak, the league’s official statistician.

In five starts, Aumont went 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA, striking out 48 hitters in 36 innings of work while walking just seven, and limiting opposing hitters to a .197 average. His most impressive outing came July 16 against Rockland, when he set a league record with 18 strikeouts en route to a complete-game victory.

The Gatineau, Quebec, native leads the Can-Am League with a 2.00 ERA and 108 strikeouts and is second with 85 2/3 innings pitched and four complete games. He has allowed just two home runs all season. Aumont was also named the league’s Pitcher of the Week for the weeks of July 15-21 and May 20-26.

Currently, he is representing Canada at the Pan-Am Games in Peru, where he earned the win in the team’s first game Monday against Argentina by pitching six scoreless innings, fanning six.

The 2007 first-round draft pick of the Seattle Mariners, 2019 is Aumont’s 12th season in professional baseball. He made 46 appearances in the major leagues for the Philadelphia Phillies between 2012 and 2015. In addition to pitching for the Champions in 2017, Aumont has also played in the Seattle, Toronto, Detroit and Chicago White Sox organizations.
