OTTAWA – Ottawa Champions starting pitcher Phillippe Aumont has struck out the 800th batter of his professional career after whiffing Rockland Boulders designated hitter Jordan Hinshaw in the bottom of the first on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-7, 240-pound righty hit the milestone in his 373rd game spread across various professional leagues, including 42 strikeouts in 46 games with the MLB’s Philadelphia Phillies.

Aumont, a Gatineau native, was originally drafted in the first round (11th overall) by the Seattle Mariners in 2007 before being traded to the Phillies, along with Tyson Gillies and J.C. Ramirez for Cliff Lee.

Aumont played parts of four seasons with Philadelphia, then bounced around a few major-league systems before joining the Champions in June 2017. He spent the 2018 season in the Detroit Tigers organization before returning to the nation’s capital this year as both starting pitcher and pitching coach.
