2017 Area Draft Report: Canada

By Hudson Belinsky

Baseball America

Five-star rating: 3. Solid, not spectacular
(Rating compares this year’s group to what an area typically produces, not to other states)

Canada has been fruitful in recent years, with 2015 being a five-star year for the Great White North. That year, Josh Naylor and Mike Soroka were selected in the first round and prep outfielders Demi Orimoloye and Miles Gordon went soon thereafter. Also from that class, outfielder Tristan Pompey chose to attend Kentucky, where he’s blossomed into on of the best college players in Division I and could be a Day 1 draft pick in 2018.

The Great White North isn’t as exciting as it was in 2015, but there are a number of intriguing prospects. Adam Hall entered the spring with a chance to be a day one draft pick —and he still could go high — but he was surpassed by fresh-armed righthander Landon Leach as the top prospect in the country.
