Official Okotoks Dawgs News Release

OKOTOKS, ALTA. — Baseball Canada and the Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Club are pleased to announce that Okotoks and the Seaman Stadium Complex will remain as the host site for the Road to Okotoks National Championship through 2029 with an option to extend through 2032.

The agreement to extend hosting privileges reflects the phenomenal success of the inaugural Championship, which was won by the Dawgs Academy 18U Black this past July. In capturing what has been referred to as “the Memorial Cup of baseball”, the Dawgs became the first team ever to hoist the Morneau Cup, named after and presented by former Major League MVP, Canada’s own, Justin Morneau.

The Road to Okotoks attracted the top 16 academy and travel teams from across Canada who earned the right to participate in the prestigious national championship through Regional Qualifying Tournaments held in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta.

In addition to the extension of hosting privileges, Baseball Canada and the Dawgs announced that the 2027 Road to Okotoks will be held at the Seaman Stadium Complex and Tourmaline Field from July 27 to August 1, 2027.

“The first Road to Okotoks showed exactly what this event can be,” said Jason Dickson, CEO of Baseball Canada. “The level of play was outstanding, but what really separated the event was the environment in Okotoks. Seeing these young players compete in front of large, passionate crowds at Seaman Stadium created something incredibly special. It’s an experience that is difficult to replicate anywhere else in Canadian baseball, and we want even more programs to have the opportunity to be part of it in 2027.”

Dawgs Managing Director John Ircandia added:

“As hosts, the Dawgs’ goal with the inaugural Road to Okotoks was to provide participating teams a quality of championship that they had never experienced. We knew with Seaman Stadium and Tourmaline Field there were no better facilities in the country. We knew that the passion of fans in our community was unmatched. And we were thrilled that the thousands of fans who attended the Road saw firsthand the extraordinary level of baseball being played from coast to coast in our country. Year 2 will be bigger and better!”

The agreement to host the Road to Okotoks through 2029 and potentially beyond, gives players, teams and fans a destination to look forward to each summer, with the Okotoks community and the Greater Calgary Area being at the heart of a truly extraordinary championship experience.
