Official Canadian Baseball League News Release

Barrie Baycats all-star reliever Carlos Sano has been named the Canadian Baseball League’s top closer for the 2026 season.

The 33-year-old Dominican made the most of his 29 1/3 high-leverage innings for the Baycats, racking up eight wins to tie for the CBL lead. He started the season with six scoreless innings and earned wins in five of his first seven appearances.

Sano, a former San Francisco Giants farmhand in his third season with Barrie, collected three saves while posting a 2.15 earned-run average.

Much of Sano’s success was his ability to limit baserunners. His WHIP of 1.16 was second among relievers after yielding 25 hits and walking nine. He also showed an ability to finish off hitters, striking out 33 and averaging a career best 10.13 punchouts per nine innings.

London reliever Skylar Janisse was the 2025 winner.
