Looking for an additional relief option ahead of a weekend set against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, the Toronto Blue Jays called up right-handed reliever Derek Law while subsequently designating utility man Alen Hanson for assignment.

Acquired alongside Hanson and RHP Juan De Paula in a deal that sent Kevin Pillar to the San Francisco Giants on April 2, Law, 28, has pitched to an ERA of 1.69 with 17 strikeouts against only three walks over eight appearances with triple-A Buffalo in 2019.

Through parts of three seasons with San Francisco, the former 28th-round draft pick has appeared 109 games as a reliever. Opponents have combined for an overall slash line of .257/.312/.399 with 33 extra-base hits through 448 plate appearances against him.

In 18 games with Toronto following the early season trade, Hanson hit .163 with 17 strikeouts while appearing as a designated hitter and in left field, right field, second, and first base defensively.

With Law on the 25-man roster, Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo now has nine relief arms to work with.
