After posting single-season highs in batting average (.289), OBP (.340), and OPS (.919) in 2020, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Herndandez earned American League Silver Slugger honours for the first time in his MLB career on Thursday.

The 28-year-old product of Cotui, D.R. ranked second in the junior circuit in home runs (16) and slugging percentage (.579) during the shortened campaign, while his batting average was good for fourth-best among all qualified outfielders.

Voted on by both coaches and managers, the awards are doled out to the top offensive player at each position. Joining Hernandez among the A.L.'s best was White Sox left fielder Eloy Jiminez and Angels cent re fielder Mike Trout.

Since joining the Blue Jays via trade with the Houston Astros in 2017, Hernandez has slashed .246/.310/.498 with 72 home runs and 174 runs scored in 335 games.

Thursday's announcement marks the 27th time a Blue Jays player has taken home Silver Slugger honours, 14 of which have now come from the team's outfielders.
