Ahead of their attempt at an early series win against the New York Yankees on Thursday, the Toronto Blue Jays placed OF Teoscar Hernandez on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain.

In a corresponding move, INF Gosuke Katoh has been recalled from triple-A Buffalo and will be active for Thursday night's series finale in the Bronx.

Katoh appeared in one game for the Blue Jays prior to being dispatched to Buffalo when the club needed to create an opening for OF Brad Zimmer on April 10. Through 14 Grapefruit League games this spring, the 27-year-old native of Mountainview, Calif., slashed .333/.370/.542 with three extra-base hits and had a pair of stolen bases.

In six games with Toronto prior to injuring himself in the sixth inning of Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Yankees, Hernandez hit .316 with a double, home run and three RBIs.

Thursday's move represents the second time the 29-year-old has landed on the IL with an oblique strain, the last of which cost him 10 days towards the end of the 2020 season.
