Canada upsets South Korea at Little League World Series

Vancouver’s Little Mountain Little League squad, representing Canada, continued their underdog run at the Little League World Series on Tuesday, with a 5-1 win over South Korea.

The loss eliminates South Korea and the Canadians will now play Japan on Wednesday at 5 p.m. E.T. with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.

The heavily favored South Korean squad had beaten Canada 7-0 in their first game of the tournament on August 19.

In Tuesday’s matchup, Canada tallied four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back.

Shortstop Cruz Krpan (Vancouver, B.C.) had a pair of hits and an RBI to lead Canada’s offence.

With his team up 5-1 in the fourth inning, Canuck hurler Kian Sandhu (Vancouver, B.C.) escaped a bases-loaded jam to preserve the four-run lead.

Sandhu found himself in the same scenario two innings later but again emerged unscathed.

Jean Ramos (Vancouver, B.C.) collected the win for Canada. He allowed a run in two innings of work.

The victory represented Canada’s third of the tournament, marking the first time they have had three wins at the Little League World Series in 28 years.

This is also the farthest Canada has advanced in the Little League World Series since 2017.

Canada was coming an upset of Panama on Monday in a 3-2 extra-inning thriller.

On Saturday, Canada defeated Australia 4-0 for their first win of the tournament.
