There’s a reason Kalem Haney (Lethbridge, Alta.) hits atop the University of Mary Marauders lineup.

Look at last week as a prime example of what he can do in the leadoff spot.

Haney went 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs in a 13-3 loss to the University of Illinois Springfield.

He followed it up with a 4-for-5 game with a triple, a walk and a stolen base as the Marauders fell to Northwest Missouri State, 13-5.

Determined to help his team escape with a win before the weekend was over, Haney again went 4-for-5, this time with two triples, a walk and five RBIs. The performance was critical to the high scoring 16-14 victory over Lewis.

Ten hits, including four triples, two walks, seven RBIs and a stolen base, that’s the makings of a quality leadoff hitter.

Kalem Haney is the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for Feb. 12 to 18.
