Official Barrie Baycats News Release

Barrie, Ont. — The Barrie Baycats are pleased to announce the return of outfielder Canice Ejoh, a dynamic outfielder and proven championship contributor, ahead of the 2026 season.

A native of Brampton, Ont., Ejoh returns to Barrie after playing a key role in the Baycats’ Intercounty Baseball League championship run in 2024. In 42 games in 2024, Ejoh hit .363 while showcasing his versatility and consistency at the plate, recording 17 doubles, three triples, five home runs, and 28 RBIs. He produced two separate hit streaks of five or more games and delivered 23 multi-hit performances, establishing himself as one of the league’s most reliable offensive threats.

Defensively, Ejoh has been just as impactful. In 2024, he emerged as one of the league’s elite outfield defenders, posting a .992 fielding percentage while providing steady, reliable play in centre field. His combination of speed, range, and instincts made him a key asset on both sides of the ball throughout Barrie’s championship season.

Ejoh’s impact in Barrie dates back further. During the 2023 season, he set the Baycats’ single-season record with 26 stolen bases, underlining his speed and ability to pressure opposing defences on the basepaths.

Before returning to the IBL, Ejoh competed professionally across multiple independent leagues. He spent the 2022 season and the start of 2023 with the Trois-Rivières Aigles of the Frontier League, appearing in 79 career games and compiling a .267 batting average with 13 doubles, four triples, five home runs, and 31 RBIs. During the 2021 season, he also suited up in the Pecos League with the Salina Stockade, and later that year with the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association.

Collegiately, Ejoh played two seasons at Canisius College and one season at Seton Hill between 2018 and 2021, appearing in 86 games at the NCAA level.

Ejoh’s IBL career originally began in 2016 with the Burlington Bandits (now the Welland Jackfish). He spent three seasons in Burlington, highlighted by an impressive rookie campaign in which he hit .343 with eight extra-base hits and 20 RBI.

After taking a year away from baseball following his release from the Ottawa Titans, Ejoh now returns to Barrie, bringing championship experience, elite defence, speed, and offensive fire power back to the top of the Baycats’ lineup.

The Baycats open up their 2026 Canadian Baseball League campaign on May 14 at 7:38 pm at Athletic Kulture Stadium against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
