Official Barrie Baycats News Release
Barrie, Ont. — The Barrie Baycats have announced the return of infielder Francisco Hernandez for the 2026 Canadian Baseball League season.
The native of Montreal, Que., spent the 2024 season competing professionally in the Frontier League with the Québec Capitales, appearing in 41 games. During that campaign, he drove in 15 runs and recorded 10 stolen bases.
Hernandez originally signed a minor league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals organization in July of 2017 and spent six seasons in the Cardinals’ system. His most productive professional season came in 2018, when he hit .293 across 64 games, collecting 19 extra-base hits and driving in 37 runs.
Hernandez joined the Baycats for the 2025 season and appeared in 29 regular-season games, with his year shortened by a hamstring injury suffered in mid-June. Despite the limited action, he hit .288 with four home runs and 16 RBIs.
He elevated his production during the postseason, nearly matching his regular-season output in half the number of games. In the 2025 playoffs, Hernandez hit .314 with two home runs — including a walk-off homer in Game 2 of the IBL Finals — while driving in 12 runs, adding three doubles, and stealing four bases.
The Baycats open up their 2026 Canadian Baseball League campaign on May 14th at 7:38 pm at Athletic Kulture Stadium against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
