GUELPH, ONT. - After an extensive search, the Guelph Royals have appointed Brian Sewell as their new field manager for the 2027 season.

Sewell, who spent the last few seasons as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs, replaces the legendary Dino Roumel, who retired at the conclusion of the 2026 season.

The former catcher, who previously played for a number of teams in the IBL, including the Royals, has also played for teams in Belgium, Greece, Austria and in the international friendlies as a member of the Great Britain National Team.

Royals General Manager Ryan Eakin said there were numerous reasons behind hiring Sewell.

"Between his experience in the league, knowledge of the game, passion on the field and familiarity with the team and myself, Brian was always someone I had in mind for this job. He is a natural leader with tremendous experience and someone who has a burning desire to win.

"I cannot wait to see Brian lead our staff for years to come."

Sewell said he cannot wait for this opportunity.

"I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Guelph Royals organization. I’m looking forward to working with such a talented group and can’t wait to see what we can accomplish this year. Guelph baseball has always had a gritty, hard-nosed identity, and the coaching staff intends to carry that forward. We will be a team that competes every night, plays for each other, and expects to win every time we take the field."
