From Welland Jackfish News Release
The Welland Jackfish have re-signed infielder Jonah Weisner (Mission B.C.).
The Ottawa University (Kansas) alumni is ready to put down roots in Niagara and call the region home following an amazing season which saw him record a .349 average with nine doubles, one triple and career-high six home runs.
“My focus is clear; compete at the highest level, bring another championship home, and build a legacy in this city,” said Weisner. “I’m here to stay.”
The former Sylvan Lake Gull spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons in the Western Canadian Baseball League where he was named the WCBL MVP in 2023.
“Jonah is as complete a player as they come in the Canadian League” said Jackfish General Manager, Jason McKay. “Dominant on both sides of the ball with speed, Jonah brings an energy and intensity that makes him a fan favourite.”
Field Manager Brian Essery added: “Jonah is an elite talent in our league, a first team all-star, hits at the top of our lineup and provides excellent defence up the middle. On top of the physical talent he has great character and is a leader in our clubhouse. We’re thrilled to have Jonah back for the 2026!”
Prior to joining the Jackfish, Weisner suited up for the Quebec Capitales of the Frontier League.
The Jackfish will play their first 2026 home game on May 16.
