Connor Caskenette topped Canadian hitters in the affiliated minor league ranks with 10 hits and a .588 batting average last week.
For his efforts, the Miami Marlins catching prospect and Duncan, B.C. native has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s Minor League Player of Week (Aug. 4 to Aug. 9).
Suiting up for the Marlins’ double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos, Caskenette accumulated his 10 hits in just four games.
His standout week started with two singles and a stolen base in the Blue Wahoos’ 10-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays’ Montgomery Biscuits on Tuesday.
Caskenette added two more singles the following day before having one of the best games of his pro career on Friday. Hitting seventh and starting at catcher, Caskenette went 4-for-5 with three runs, a double, two RBIs and two stolen bases to propel the Blue Wahoos to a 13-11, 10-inning victory over the Biscuits.
The Canadian catcher topped the week off with two singles, two RBIs and two stolen bases in the Blue Wahoos’ 3-0 win on Saturday.
Caskenette’s strong week boosted his batting average from .200 to .252 in double-A this season.
The 24-year-old backstop batted .313 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs in 34 games with the Marlins’ High-A Beloit Sky Carp to begin the season.
Selected in the 12th round of the 2024 MLB draft by the Marlins, the Mid-Island Pirates and Junior National Team alum is in his third pro season.
