To say Dante Nori (Toronto, Ont.) excelled in his first week with the High-A Jersey Shore BlueClaws would be an understatement.
After being promoted to the club from the class-A Clearwater Threshers on Aug. 26, Nori proceeded to top all Canadians in the affiliated minor league ranks in batting average (.458), hits (11) and stolen bases (11) in his first week with the BlueClaws.
For his efforts, he has been named the Canadian Baseball Network minor league Player of the Week. It’s the first time he has received the honour this season.
On Aug. 26, in his first game at the High-A level, Nori batted leadoff for the BlueClaws and went 1-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base in a 4-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles’ Aberdeen IronBirds.
The speedy outfielder added another hit, two more walks and three stolen bases the following day in another BlueClaws’ loss.
On Thursday, he went 2-for-5 with two runs and a stolen base to help the BlueClaws to a 4-3 victory.
He contributed another hit and stolen base on Friday before putting together his best performance of the week the next day when he went 4-for-4 with three singles, a double, two runs and four stolen bases in the BlueClaws’ 8-5 loss to the IronBirds.
Nori concluded his week with two more singles and a stolen bases on Sunday to help propel his club to a 6-0 win.
Born in Toronto while his father, Micah, was coaching the Toronto Raptors, Nori was chosen in the first round (27th overall) by the Phillies in the 2024 MLB draft. This made him the highest Canadian born-player selected that year.
Prior to joining the BlueClaws, Nori had a .262/.363/.381 slash line with 111 hits and 37 stolen bases in 109 games with the class-A Threshers. He is in his first full pro season.
