Vancouver Canadians outfielder David Calabrese topped all Canucks in the affiliated minor league ranks in hits (14), batting average (.500), stolen bases (5), RBIs (7) and OPS (1.321) last week.
For his efforts, the Maple, Ont., native has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s Minor League Player of the Week (September 1 to September 6).
In six games with the Canadians, Calabrese also tied for the lead among Canucks in the affiliated ranks in runs (8), doubles (3) and home runs (2).
The left-handed hitting outfielder started off his week by going 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the Canadians’ 3-1 win over his former team, the Tri-City Dust Devils, at Gesa Stadium on Tuesday.
He followed that up with a four-hit performance the next day - connecting for two doubles and two singles. He also knocked in four runs to help the Canadians down the Dust Devils 12-6.
Calabrese then added a hit and three stolen bases in the Canadians’ 10-3 loss on Thursday before putting together his second four-hit game in three days to propel his club back into the win column on Friday. He clubbed a two-run homer in that contest.
The speedy outfielder enjoyed his fourth, multi-hit game of the week on Saturday when he recorded a single and a double in the Canadians’ 6-3 loss.
He then singled on Sunday for his 14th hit of the week.
In total in 16 games with the Canadians, since joining the Blue Jays’ organization after beginning the season in the Angels’ system, Calabrese, 23, owns a .348/.386/.545 slash line and has three home runs, 10 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
Calabrese has also been named the Northwest League Player of the Week.
