Third baseman David McCabe had a monster week for the Atlanta Braves’ double-A Columbus Clingstones, topping all Canadian minor leaguers in home runs (4), RBIs (15) and OPS (1.609).
For his efforts, he has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s minor league Player of the Week.
It’s the first time McCabe (Oshawa, Ont.) has received the honour this season.
The 6-foot-3 Ontario Blue Jays alum started off his week by belting a home run, a double and driving in three runs for the Clingstones in their 7-6 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers’ Biloxi Shuckers on Tuesday.
He followed that up the next day with a career night, clubbing two homers and a double while knocking in a seven runs to propel the Clingstones to 9-5 win.
McCabe then went deep and doubled for a third consecutive game on Thursday. He also recorded four more RBIs in the Clingstones’ 14-8 loss.
Unfortunately, his homer/double streak ended on Friday when he went 0-for-3 but was walked four times in the Clingstones’ 10-3 victory over the Shuckers.
His finished his week by going 2-for-8 with two singles in a pair of weekend contests. He collected his 15th RBI of the week on Sunday.
McCabe’s performance also earned him Southern League Player of the Week honours.
In total with the Clingstones this season, the 25-year-old third baseman is batting .286 with 10 home runs and 52 RBIs in 105 games.
Selected in the fourth round of the 2022 MLB draft by the Braves, the switch-hitting infielder has rebounded nicely after Tommy John surgery limited him to 35 games in double-A in 2024.
