Right-hander Jacob Zibin dominated in his start for the Cleveland Guardians’ High-A Lake County Captains on Saturday.
He allowed just two hits, while striking out seven without walking a batter, in six scoreless innings to lead the Captains to a 6-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
For his efforts, Zibin (Langley, B.C.) has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s Minor League Player of the Week (August 18 to August 23).
Zibin threw 47 of his 73 pitches for strikes against a strong Timber Rattlers squad.
It was his third start in August in which he has held opponents scoreless. In total for the month, he has permitted just one earned run in 23 innings.
His dominant performance also improved his overall record with the Captains to 4-2 and improved his ERA to 2.66 in 10 starts. He has 54 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings and opponents are hitting just .190 against him.
Selected in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB draft by the Guardians, the 21-year-old Langley Blaze and Junior National Team alum is in his second pro season.
Back-to-back arm surgeries prevented him from making his pro debut until 2025.
