Outfielder Owen Caissie (Burlington, Ont.) topped all Canadians in the affiliated minor league ranks in home runs (3) and OPS (1.267) this past week.
For his efforts, he has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s minor league Player of the Week (June 10 to June 15) for the second time this season. He also received the honour for the week of May 19 to May 25.
Caissie started his week by belting a three-run home run in the first inning against the Louisville Bats on June 10 in the Cubs’ 8-5 loss.
Two days later, he clubbed another homer - a two-run shot - as part of a 2-for-3, three-RBI performance in the Cubs’ 10-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader. The Fieldhouse Pirates grad then added a double in the second game to help the Cubs to a 5-4 victory.
He had a single in each of his next two contests before he walloped his third round-tripper of the week on Sunday - another two-run blast - to help the Cubs seal a 3-0 win over the Bats.
In total, in six games last week, Caissie went 7-for-20 (.350 batting average) and had a .417 on-base percentage and .850 slugging percentage.
For the season, his fifth in the Cubs’ organization, Caissie is batting .263 with 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and an .879 OPS in 57 games.
