Away back in the summer of 2019, RHP Noah Skirrow was on fire.

Pitching for Orleans in the Cape Cod summer league Skirrow (Stoney Creek, Ont.) was all-star with a 2.76 ERA. Of course the nickname or the Orleans franchise is the Firebirds. That summer in seven games, he pitched 29 1/3 innings.

Last summer, Skirrow was not selected from the Liberty University Flames since the draft shortened to five rounds. Becoming a free agent ,he was free to sign with any club interested and the Philadelphia Phillies scooped him for the set fee of $20,000. Kellan McKeon, grandson of ‘Trader Jack’ Jack McKeon, who guided the Florida Marlins to the 2003 World Series and Alex Agostino (St-Bruno, Que.) teamed up on the signing.

Skirrow was still on fire this week -- two outings, totaling 6 2/3 scoreless innings -- for the Jersey Shore BlueClaws to win Canadian Baseball Network minor league Player of the Week for Week I ... the best of the 48 Canadians in the minors.

His week went like this:

_ Coming on in relief with his two down 4-0 he pitched 2 2/3 scoreless in an 8-0 loss to Hudson Valley Renegades before 1,018 at FirstEnergy Park. He allowed three hits and fanned five of the eight outs recorded in his 54-pitch outing.

_ He made the start and pitched four innings in a 3-2 loss to the Wilmington Blue Rocks in front of 673 fans at Frawley Stadium. Skirrow allowed three base runners (one hit, two walks) as he fanned four. He departed with a 1-0 lead.

In his junior Skirrow season for the Flames he started four games with a 1.96 ERA with 23 innings pitched in the shortened season. For his career, Skirrow won 10 games for Liberty with a 3.83 ERA in 166.2 innings pitched. He started 33 of the 35 games he appeared in.
