Okotoks, Alta. – The Okotoks Dawgs earned a 9-6 come-from-behind victory over the Medicine Hat Mavericks in front of a crowd of 6,127 at Seaman Stadium on Sunday.
With the victory, the Dawgs extended their winning streak to six games and improved their record to 11-3.
The Dawgs’ offence was led by another standout performance by Dawgs Academy alum Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.), who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Fellow Dawgs Academy alum, Ricky Sanchez also had a good day, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
But Ayden Crouse stole the show when he came off the bench to pinch-hit in the bottom of the 10th. Crouse came through with a pair of runners on, hammering a 1-2 count fastball over the fence in left, and walking it off. It was Crouse’s second home run of the season.
On the mound, Tyson Willis got the start for the Dawgs, going five strong innings and allowing just two runs.
The back end of the Dawgs’ bullpen was also lights out, with Wyatt Sadleir (Calgary, Alta.) and Ashton Luera combining for four scoreless innings to close out the game. The two combined for six strikeouts. Luera earned his first win of the season.
The Dawgs will now hit the road to play the Brooks Bombers on Monday. Their next home game is Thursday against the Lethbridge Bulls.
