Crowell, Geekie propel Dawgs to 8-5 win over Giants

The Okotoks Dawgs battled through the rain and held on to beat the Fort McMurray Giants 8-5 on Thursday night.

The Dawgs recorded nine hits, while their pitchers struck out 11 batters.

With the victory, the Dawgs move to 36-12 and are two games up on the Sylvan Lake Gulls with eight games left in the regular season.

Nash Crowell (Yarmouth, N.S.) launched his 10th home run of the season in the fifth inning. He finished the night with three RBIs. Noah Geekie (Strathclair, Man.) also added two hits and two RBIs for the Dawgs.

Meanwhile, Ricky Sanchez extended his hitting streak to five games with a 1-for-3 performance. He also recorded his 18th RBI of the campaign.

On the mound, Gavin Wuschke (Regina, Sask.) started and tossed five innings for the Dawgs, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out four.

The two teams will play again on Friday at Seaman Stadium.
