The Okotoks Dawgs’ pitching staff delivered a dominant performance on Thursday, shutting out the Sylvan Lake Gulls in a 6-0 victory on the road.

The Dawgs’ offence struck early and never looked back, led by a two-run home run from Zane Skansi (Campbellsville University) in the top of the first inning and a solo shot from Benito Bonilla (Halifax, N.S.) in the fifth.

The game was a complete team effort as the Dawgs extended their win streak to two with a combination of strong pitching, disciplined hitting, and flawless defence.

Other highlights from the batter’s box for the Dawgs came from Ricardo Sanchez (Pittsburg State University) who went 2-for-4 and on top of his homer, Skansi added two more hits to finish 3-for-4.

Overall, the Dawgs’ offence was firing on all cylinders but it was the pitching that truly stole the show.

AJ Rogers (Halifax, N.S.) was in complete control, striking out six while allowing just three hits through six innings. A trio of relievers - Trey Mackwood (Calgary, Alta.), Nate Charlton (Okotoks, Alta.), and Frank Flores Jr. (University of Colorado - Pueblo) - then combined to toss three scoreless innings in relief.

The Dawgs will return home to face the Gulls again on Friday at Seaman Stadium.
