King, Machej lead Dawgs to victory over Bulls

Okotoks, Alta.– The Okotoks Dawgs improved to 3-0 on the new WCBL season as they defeated the Bulls 3-1.

The Bulls opened the scoring in the second inning, but the Dawgs tied it in the same inning and took the lead in the fourth.

The Dawgs collected seven hits in the victory.

The Dawgs’ offence was led by Eric Machej (Okotoks, Alta.), Nolan King (Regina, Sask.) and Aidan Rose (Calgary, Alta.).

King scored two of the Dawgs’ runs which were both driven in by Machej who finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Rose added an RBI and finished 1-for-3. Elijah Hammill (Oakville, Ont.) improved his hitting streak to three games as he went 2-for-4.

Noah Geekie (Strathclair, Man.) made his first appearance on the mound and earned the win after tossing four scoreless innings.

Relief efforts from Ben Soke (Fredericton, N.B.), Brody Forno (Okotoks, Alta.), Quinn Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.) and Cade Herrmann kept the Bulls’ bats quiet.

Sam Roberts earned his first save of the season, striking out two in a scoreless ninth.

The Dawgs will travel to Sylvan Lake for a battle with the Gulls on Tuesday before returning home to Seaman Stadium on June 1 to face the Fort McMurray Giants.
