Dawgs drop West division finals opener to Gulls

Okotoks, Alta. – The Okotoks Dawgs came up short against the Sylvan Lake Gulls on Tuesday, falling 7-2 in front of 3,411 fans at Seaman Stadium in the first game of the best-of-three WCBL West Division Final.

On the mound, Logan Rumberg (Saskatoon, Sask.) started for the Dawgs. He allowed seven runs in 6 1/3 innings before Dawgs Academy right-hander Jack Bello (Vancouver, B.C.) took over and closed out the contest with 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

Cal Gates was the Dawgs’ top offensive performer, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Ricky Sanchez and Jordan Kievman added one hit each.

The Dawgs will look to even the series in Game 2 on Wednesday at Gulls Stadium. The game will get underway at 7:05 p.m.
