In a dramatic extra-innings battle on Wednesday night, the Okotoks Dawgs came up just short in a 12–11 loss to the Moose Jaw Miller Express.
The Dawgs burst out of the gates with five runs in the first inning and held the lead deep into the contest, but Moose Jaw clawed back, tying it late and eventually securing the win in the bottom of the 10th on a walk-off single.
Eric Machej (St. Albert, Alta.) led the charge at the plate for the Dawgs, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.
Aidan Rose (Calgary, Alta.) also added two hits and a run for the Dawgs.
On the mound, five pitchers saw action. Trey Mackwood (Calgary, Alta.) tossed 2 2/3 innings and gave up two earned runs, while striking out two.
Another strong performance came from Alex Oliver (Colorado State University Pueblo), who pitched a clean ninth inning and showed poise in extra innings before Moose Jaw’s final hit sealed the game.
The Dawgs will play the Miller Express in Moose Jaw again on Thursday.
