The Okotoks Dawgs dropped the first game of their series against the Saskatoon Berries, 11-8 at Seaman Stadium on Tuesday.
The Dawgs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but couldn’t hold off the East Division-leading Berries.
Offensively, Barry Eiseman (Reinhardt University) was a standout performer for the Dawgs, going 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI, and a walk.
Ricky Sanchez (Pittsburg State University) and Jake Skaggs (Pittsburg State University) also contributed two hits each, while Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) had a hit and two RBIs.
On the mound, Brody Forno (Okotoks, Alta.) started and allowed two earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. Five Dawgs relievers then followed with Austin Collins (Okotoks Dawgs Academy), an affiliate player, being the most impressive. He struck out two in two scoreless innings.
With the loss, the Dawgs dropped to 27-13 on the season, but remain two games ahead of the Sylvan Lake Gulls atop the West Division.
The Dawgs will play the Berries again on Wednesday at Seaman Stadium.
